Homework due on February 21, 2006

There has been a problem loading things onto the computer, so we will have a couple more pages of reading than usual. These questions will be on your test for February 28, so please pay careful attention to them. We will start with page 54-55 (Vectors) because you are currently working on your vector drawings. On page 55 please answer the following questions:

  1. What type of work is CAD used for? Give 4 examples.
  2. What can more advanced CAD programs do?
  3. How do factories use CAD?
  4. You are going to design a workshop which has units for the storage of equipment and materials. Ouline in a paragraph how you would do it using a CAD program.
  5. When might you want to use both bitmap and vector programs on the same piece of work?
After that please read about Bitmap pictures on page 48-51 and answer the following questions:

What is a Bimap program?
What is the typical spacing of a Bitmap picture? How about complex ones?
What does the basic program tools consist of??
List 3 advantages of Bitmap programs.
Briefly explain how the smoothness of oultlines in a Bitmap picture is determined.
What is anti-aliasing and how does it work?

Pg. 51

What do high quality photo images require?
List 6 advantages of using Bitmap photographic images.
Describe what happens when a small bitmap picture is greatly enlarged. What causes this effect?

Homework due on February 10, 2006

We are almost ready to move on from spreadsheets so it is time to do some reading about our next topic, which is working with photos. We have already done a bit with our yearbook collages, but now we are going to focus on vectors and bitmaps. Although the text starts with bitmaps and then moves to vectors, we are going to start with vectors. So, for Friday please read pages 52-53 and answer the questions on page 53.
