This is it, your last homework for the year! After this we will move into exam preparation. Keep in mind that a large majority of the exam is going to based on the homework readings you have done, especially in the 3rd trimester. So, check my blog to make sure you have done all the reading, review your work and ask any questions if you are still confused about anything.

For this weekend, please read pages 112-115 and answer the following questions:

  4. Define the following: Found Set (1 pt), Sorting (3 pts), merging (2 pts).
  5. What is the best way to show patterns comparisons and trends in data? (1 pt)

Homework due on May 26, 2006

We are almost finished! We only have to work with reports and then begin our review for the exam on June 9th! A reminder that the exam will have a large amount of inormation based on the homework, so I hope you were doing your homework! Also, we only have two more homework assignments, this one and one for Friday. Your task today is to read pages 110-111 and answer the following questions:

  1. Define Data Capture. (1 pt)
  2. What is a hindering feature of Bar Code Devices? (1 pt)
  3. What do the following options do: Auto Enter, Value List, Check Box? (1 pt each)
  4. What is data validation? What are the 6 main data validation checks? (7pts)
  5. Explain how data verification is different from data validation. (4pts)

Homework due on May 5, 2006

I hope you all enjoyed the food fair. Thanks to you and your other Grade 9 classmates for all your hard work. You guys were great! But, now back to the grind and this week's homework questions:

Read pages 106-107 and answer the following questions:

  1. What is a database? What are the four main properties? (5 pts.)
  2. Give an example, not found in the reading, of a small database. (1 pt.)
  3. Give two examples of large databases that might be used to help members of the public. (2 pts.)
  4. Describe a GIS and how it is used. (4 pts.)
  5. Explain what is meant by: file, record, and field. (3 pts.)
  6. Look carefully at the table on page 107. In your opinion, do the advantages of a database outweight the disadvantages? (3 pts.)
