Welcome to Gr 9 IGCSE!

Welcome to my classroom blog for IGCSE. I am excited because soon you guys are going to be starting your own blogs so we can communicate about what you have done outside of class to prepare for your IGCSE exam.

You might be wondering why a blog? Well, why not? Blogs are a common item found on the Internet today and an excellent educational tool. We are going to implement these blogs in a number of ways but mainly for homework purposes. If you have any ideas or suggestions for using our blogs to their full ICT educational potential please let me know.

One reason we are going to use blogs is to maximize our time to sufficiently cover the required material needed to give you the tools to successfully pass your IGCSE ICT exam. So, the blog gives us a technoligically sound method of allowing us to comminicate outside of class, thus leaving most of the class time to do more hands on learning of the programs we are going to cover. To start this process do the following:

1) Go to http://www.blogger.com/ and set up your own account from which you are going to post your homework. Remember your sign in name, password, URL, and title. Give the URL and title of the blog to Mr. Wehrle. When giving the title of the blog please include your first name somewhere in the title. Also, when you are putting your name in your profile please only include your first name.
2) Write an introductory opening paragraph to welcome your readers to your blog. Remember who your reader is going to be: Me! At least mainly me. Of course you are encouraged to check each others blogs to get tips and give suggestions on what a good blog looks like, especially in terms of content.

Note: There some important things I am looking for when you answer your homework questions:

  • make the answers easy to read
  • to put the answers in your own words
  • write very specific points for the number of points each question is worth (i.e. 3 pt question needs 3 concrete, distinct pieces of information)
  • the question asked can be determined by reading the answer

Good luck. Remember, I will be regularly checking your blog, giving you feedback, and marking whether your homework is done or not. Also, your blog may be selected for viewing by the whole class when we are taking up homework or doing other work in the class.
